Evolution is an astonishingly interesting thing to dabble in. Mankind has come a long way. We've built civilizations and have destroyed them. Necessity has pushed us to come up with useful things. We've developed science and invented a number of gadgets. Technology is better than ever. We've made communication easier, traveling is not a problem and takes relatively little time. We've even sent people in outer space.
But these are the important things, they've driven us forward. But most of all people love entertainment, leisure and of course, money. And this is where the problem lies.
This isn't going to be some sort of a rant about global conspiracies and how someone controls our mindset and that there's no free will. It will be a quick overview on how our society has become spoiled to a certain extent and how people find ways to make easy money by taking advantage of consumers. And that's exactly what we are - a consumer society. We will swallow and absorb everything they throw at us. I share the opinion that people need to be more liberal and open minded but sometimes a little conservative thinking won't harm anyone. We don't put anything under critical review anymore. We only consume, consume, consume. Young people are somehow taught that rebellious means disrespectful and they seem to like that. So everything that is "different" is hailed by them. We've come to a point where Miley Cyrus' latest music video is just a 4 minute shot of only her mouth where she swallows and spits a number of substances while singing. The video is very demeaning and cynical while the song itself is nothing special too. This clip has generated 15 million views over just one month. That's the definition of consumer society.
We throw money at someone who does grotesque things on camera instead of educating or improving us in any way. Pop music worldwide has turned into a low quality money driven industry that no longer focuses on composing virtuous sequences of notes. Instead, what we call music today is just some type of generic beat with common computerized repeating sounds and mediocre singing. But it sells, it's revered by the majority of the consumers and this low effort endeavor that we call music makes some people very rich and popular. We have to note that there are still bands and musicians that come up with good music - people who spend every day locked in a room improvising and writing it down. But this is rarely promoted and therefore their talent and skill often falls on deaf ears.
The average guy in the UK is too busy to consider things outside of the ones that are shoved in his face. A person who's occupation is a man with a van in Liverpool that drives around delivering stuff all day long, listening to the radio and seeing billboards at every intersection in town will be easily affected by modern culture. Busy people are easy targets because they don't have time for deeper entertainment. They just need a pass time activity.

Chinese industry has massively grown over the last decade and that's mainly due to the fact that the western countries love buying cheap things that provide a certain level of convenience but don't require to be closely maintained. Many European countries have stopped relying on their own production and would rather import goods from China as it is a lot cheaper. Another aspect of the consumer society is exactly that. People have don't care about the quality of everyday things and are attracted solely by affordability. There's this old saying that what is cheap turns out to be expensive later on. But that's not true anymore. 1st of all replacing old broken things with new ones is no longer a concern. 2nd of all, China has started producing some better quality items that are licensed by famous brands and they last longer. There are still these companies that offer hand- made high end things but most households can't get over the price and prefer sticking to these generic machinery produced stocks. Custom made things are usually something that wealthier fellows fall in love with.
And finally food. Good food has turned into a luxury. If you want to eat right and rely on food that won't kill you quicker than you think, you need to spend a lot. Regular bread and processed meat are said to be plainly awful. We shouldn't even call it meat - it is mostly soy nowadays. Companies cut on their production expenses by using worse technology and low quality ingredients in the food they make. This results in products that happen to be harmful in the long term. And yet very few of us are careful about what we eat.
We simply buy what's cheaper and hope for the best. Fast food business has grown to proportions that are hardly imaginable. Now combine this easy accessibility with what the food contains and you will get awful health results among world’s population. They make this food relatively delicious and extremely cheap. Have you ever thought about McDonald’s margin for example. In order for them to sell you a cheeseburger for $0.99 and still make a profit off it imagine how much it costs them to make it and what they really put in it. Food that cheap cannot be good for you and it isn’t. There are numerous YouTube videos of people who experiment with fast food and observe the results after it goes through your mouth and stomach into your bowels. But we don’t seem to care. People still crowd those restaurants and help this industry grow larger and larger. It’s not about awareness anymore, it’s about will.
